Making a bedbug trap

A pregnant woman with a mattress full of bedbugs.

She can’t think of having her baby getting bit by bedbugs like she is, or have him to live in poison.

Propoxur___http://www.microkat.gr/msds/Propoxur.htm

You can not spray poison Propoxur on a mattress. It is a class 6 poison and should never make contact with the skin, banned for indoor use, proven for decades to be harmful for children . And especially not on babies since  poison is 20 times more toxic for them than for adults.

Pregnant women are especially at risk as Propoxur toxicity is 100 times higher for foetuses!

bedbug trap, it is the only thing that can save her baby from the bedbug and from the poison pusher.

Damn the poison pushers who are making the bedbug resistant by overuse and overexposure of their stupid product.  Using poison  as a repellent only spreads bedbugs, it is criminal to put poison in our children’s beds! There are ways to defend ourselves, I do not need a poison pusher to “save” me for money, I can do a better job all by myself, better  than any of their self-professed  experts who  built their Industry on bedbugs. To them the bedbug is money and you will suffer until you pay, unless you get rid of the bedbugs yourself.

Here is how to make a bedbug trap

The first thing to do is to stop all bites immediately. As long as bedbugs can feed, they grow and multiply. The first thing to do is to stop feeding them.

  • A shield on the bed will keep bedbugs from being able to bite.
  • CO2 bedbug traps on the floor will catch bedbugs from the room and falling down from the barriers and from the bed.
  • Bedbug barriers will keep bedbugs off the walls and out of the furniture.

We turn the whole bed into a bedbug trap.

1)__Cover the whole bed

  • Get a large 10’x15′ sheet of plastic and cover the whole bed with it.
  • Place it on the headboard from the ground up, over the top and down onto the mattress. Push it completely down to the box spring and up again to make a crease and spread the plastic over the mattress with both sides hanging down to the floor.
  • Make another crease at the foot of the bed or simply down if you have nothing.
  • Tie the plastic around the middle of the mattress and in the creases with a strong string, small rope or anything that is convenient for you.
  • Use scissors to cut the sides of the plastic a toe space above the floor.

1a)__Cover the whole couch.

Bedfbugs will infest any other place where you rest. If the bed is their favorite plcae, so is the couch where you spend time and where they can get to you. Cover the couch the same way you covered the beed. Bedbug Shield – Couch 2)__Make traps and put them under the bed

  • Traps can be made from articles and items you already have at home.

  • To make a trap you need four small cups, four 2L bottles and 1/4″ tubing such as found in pet shop for aquarium. ___ note: some ingenious people make their tubing out of simple  plastic drinking straws.
  • Attach or glue a piece of cloth or paper towel to the outside of the cups. Cut it straight at the top and cut the bottom leaving it in contact with the floor, bedbugs will climb on it to get up and into the cup.
  • Brush some talcum powder in the inside of the cup.
  • Make a hole in the cap of the bottle with the point of one blade of your scissors. make the hole just big enough to insert the tubing tightly in it.
  • Get an old sock and cut off the toe and slip it over the bottle to cover it from light.
  • Measure a length of tubing, to go from the bottles (conveniently placed out of the way near the head of the bed and against the wall) to the cups placed under each corner of the bed.
  • One end goes in the hole in the cap of the bottle, use glue to seal the tubing on the cap. The other end is taped to the handle of the cup.
  • The first trap is done, you will need four.

The CO2 Bedbug Trap

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Famous traps:

There were six of them and they caught 170-190 scattered dormant bedbugs. Another trap used by the same experienced user uses a simple large coffee can for a sentinel … so they don’t get bumped over. The large coffee can with a 2 liter bottle inside make a sentinel which is on the job , 24 hours a day … slowly percolating away. The sentinel is sitting in the same closet shown in the picture above. “Coffee cans have a rim along the inside , which I was concerned might defeat the abrupt fall that is desired … so , I have the kind of can opener that cuts along the side … the “ring” in the photo is what I cut out …….. it worked nice , as it left no ledge at the top ….. then I attached the cloth ‘skirt’ , similar to the others pictured , and made the slower 4 cups sugar + half the yeast + water mixture.” ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Creative traps:

This trap is very efficient as it uses both major bedbug attractants : Heat and CO2 The heat comes from a heating pad on the back of a child’s chair and a CO2 generator on the seat of the chair. A tubing brings the CO2 to an inverted bowl unde the chair and is covered with Tape on the outside so that bedbugs can easill climb up and talcum powder in the iside making it impossible for bedbugs to come out. Another ingenious trap even more efficient as the heating pad  warms up the trash can making it more visible for bedbugs and protecting the CO2 generator inside from being knocked dowm. Note the spacers underneath the can to allow bedbugs to go into it and in the bowl inside. These are excellent traps!

Another creative trap!

A beautiful trap

Very creative bedbug trap

Even if the radiator is not the best place to put a bedbug trap, this assembly has everything needed to make an excellent bedbug trap.

A large receptacle that serves as the bedbug pitfall, a cloth on the outside to give easy access up into it to bedbugs, and a CO2 generator as a flower vase filled with the sugar and yeast mixture that produces CO2.

Martha Steward would give it an A+ for its look, yet it is just as efficient as all the other traps.

3)__Make CO2 to attract bedbugs

  • We make CO2 with yeast and sugar in lukewarm (100F) water.
  • Each trap needs one packet (7-8 gr) of yeast and two cups of sugar.
  • With a funnel, put a full tablespoon of sugar in the bottle and the content of the envelope of yeast, add a tea cup of lukewarm (100F) water and shake vigourously until it forms some bubbles.
  • Let it stand for 10 minutes and when it forms a ring of foam
  • Fill the bottle halfway with lukewarm water and add the two cups of sugar. Use an extra cap to shake the bottle and to dissolve the sugar in the water with the yeast.
  • Fill the bottle leaving a small space at the top and give it a last shake.
  • The first CO2 brew is done, you should see a few tiny bubbles slowly rise to the surface of a cloudy brew. (You can slip down the sock during your operations).

  • Put the cap with the tubing on the bottle and sniff the end of the tubing on the cup. It should smell lightly like baked bread
  • The trap is ready and working.

The mixture should last 2-3 weeks

——— Use the bed without getting any bites ———-

  • Get clean sheets and make the bed, a contour sheets fit over the plastic on the mattress in the creases.
  • Make sure that no part of the bed or the sheets touch the walls or the floor, no pathway or no bridges that bedbugs can use to got across and get on top of the bed where you will sleep without getting a bite because all the bedbugs in the mattress and in the rest of the bed cannot go through the plastic and that if they try to get out the only way is down to the floor where you have put your traps, you are protected from bites.
  • Other bedbugs elsewhere in the room will be attracted towards the bed and will get into the traps too.
  • If you are careful during the day, bedbugs will go into the traps at night while you are sleeping soundly without a bite.

4)__Kill the last bedbugs and final clean-up

  • You will catch most of the bedbugs in the first week or two and their numbers will go down and in 3-4 weeks there won’t be any in the traps anymore.
  • Bedbugs in the room are caught with the traps and  bedbugs in the bed are starved to death under the shield. Keep the traps running  for three months, longer than any  bedbug can last without a blood meal.
  • Remove the plastics and vacuum the entire bed of the dead bedbugs, brush clean spots on the seams and remove stains with carpet cleaner. Put the bed back in its place, and leave only two traps running under the bed at low CO2 (only half the yeast in the mix). They will be sentinels against re-infestation.

————————————————————————————-

We had enough of being eaten alive by the bedbug and live the nightmare it brings.

  • We know that if you control the food of any insect, you control the insect.

—– Do not feed the bedbugs —–

  • If you do not feed the bedbug it will die of starvation, when it come out to feed, catch it with a trap and it is as simple as that.
  • —– Trap the bedbugs under an impenetrable shield —–
  • Put insurmountable obstacles and barriers in their path, a full shield over the bed and they will not be able to get to their food and will not be able to bite.

This is the way I treat bedbugs…

… suffocated in carbon dioxide and starved to death!

  1. Thank you for your videos and website. I wish I’d found them earlier to apply your solutions.

I had no visual proof, even after close inspection of the outside of my bed and box spring. But my bites are clearly bed bug bites, an average of 17 per night for 4 nights. The 5th night I did other things recommended online – vacuuming closely everywhere including the bed, spraying alcohol and spreading DE. I slept on the floor surrounded by DE but still got 2-3 bites (after an average of 17 for 4 nights in a row). After the DE, I did see one adult exoskeleton and possiblya nymph.

I set up the bed bug shield last night on my bed and slept without a bite. I expect I’ll sleep even better tonight. So thankful!

I also made 3 CO2 traps and put them under my bed. But they didn’t catch any bed bugs last night. I was so disappointed. Can you help me figure out why? I made the traps with the 4 water bottles in a plastic dish and 2 metal cake pans, with masking tape all around the outside wall so they could climb up. I followed the recipe, though maybe with 300ml less water. Could the DE prevent them from reaching the traps? I did vacuum. Not sure what else I should do, but wait another night or a few?

I’d really appreciate your advice. Thanks!

    • It is common not to find any visual traces of bedbugs except for the bites they leave. The other traces of bedbugs are exo-skeletons, fecal matter and red blood streaks when bedbugs are squished while still in the bed where we slept. Bedbugs always leave their “host” as soon as they complete their blood meal but if you move before they can get down and on the underside of the mattress, box spring and in the bed frame.

Usually a quick inspection of the top side of the mattress and the box spring does not reveal them, especially if you have only a few adults and mostly nymphs that outnumber adults 50-70 to 1. Nymphs are much more difficult to find because they do not even look like bedbugs until they reach the adult stage. It is also a matter of the number of bedbugs and we can tell the size of the infestation by the number of bites. An average of 17 bedbugs bites for 4 nights could mean about 100 bedbugs since bedbugs feed only once a week.

But you do not have 100 bedbugs anymore. Your vacuuming and your use of rubbing alcohol might have caught or killed many bedbugs and you greatly brought their numbers down. Make sure to remove the vacuuming bag and soak it with alcohol inside a second sealed plastic bag, bedbugs remain alive in a vacuuming bag and can get out if you do not kill them. You can also kill those bedbugs with heat, either with your dryer, microwave, the oven (keept he temperature down to150°F) You can also kill them with boiling water.

DE could also help but not for a while. DE is not a poison and does not kill bedbugs right away. It takes days, sometimes weeks for DE to scratch their waxy coating on their shell and make bedbugs lose their moisture. Bedbugs cannot drink water and losing their moisture is dealy to them. DE is a dessicant and it kills bedbugs by drying them up. It explain why you still got 2-3 bites sleeping on the floor even surrounded by DE. Sleeping on the floor was not a good idea but you corrected that when you put your bedbug shield and slept on the bed without getting a single bite.

You can really expect to sleep even better tonight and all the nights after that. The bedbug shield is the perfect defense against bedbugs and the left over bedbugs cannot reach you anymore and they cannot feed and they never will feed again as long as you have a shield. That is the only reason why we have bedbugs, only because they can feed. Bedbugs absolutely need our warm blood to molt and grow, and they absolutely need our warm blood to lay eggs. As long as bedbugs cannot feed, their numbers will always go down and if your DE does not kill them, they will die anyway of starvation. The shield has killed so many bedbugs that I lost count, probably in the millions. Trust the shield, it will protect you against bedbugs until there are none left.

I would not be surprised if you do not catch bedbugs with the traps. CO2 traps catch bedbugs on the floor and that might be anywhere in the room. Bedbugs that are in the bed do not go back down on the floor, hiding close by and of easy access to you for their next meal. That is why the shield is so important, It keeps bedbugs from being able to feed and it stops all bedbug bites at once. That and the fact that you have a lot less bedbugs than before. It takes time for a bedbug population to come back to their previous numbers and it becomes impossible if they can’t feed.

With what you did. vacuuming, spray them with alcohol, put DE where bedbugs could be( in the seams of the mattress , between the mattress and box spring, on the frame of the bed and headboards if any, and mostly use the shield, you will not have bedbugs for long and you will not see any bedbugs and most importantly, you will not have another bite. I recommend that you make another inspection of the shield and try to find if there is any path the bedbugs could take to reach you. A simple verification to make sure that the shield will block them all, no matter if they are in the room or in the bed.

Your description of the traps looks fine to me, keep using them and they will tell you if there are bedbugs loose in the room. Empty traps is a good sign that there are no bedbugs anywhere in the room. Bedbugs tend to get under the shield, it is their preferred path to reach their source of food and I repeat that the shield stops all of them.

Wait another night or a few? If you do not get any bites from now on, you can afford to wait as long as you feel like it. No traces of bedbugs, no traces of bites, not even bothered by bedbugs anymore, you will be able to sleep as if there are no bedbugs. Use a calender and count the days without bites. Bedbugs can live up to 90 days without a blood meal and only if they become dormant which is not the case for bedbugs in a bed where bedbugs remain active looking for a place to get through the shield and finding none. Active bedbugs in a bed lasts only a few weeks.

Plastic can be sweaty and slippery. Use a thick sheet or a comforter on top of the shield and hold it in place with a countour sheet (the fabric bed sheet with the elastic). It will be much more comfortable.

Most of your work is done, all you have to do from now on is to follow if you got bedbugs bites or not. No bites means that bedbugs can’t feed and it is the real way to get rid of bedbugs permanently and right down to the last one. The next few days will bring you peace of mind. If you wish to discuss more about bedbugs or what will happen, do not hesitate to contact me again and I will give you others cases where people got rid of their bedbugs this way.

Staving bedbugs to death is a fitting end for such a blood-sucking parasite.

  2. Forgot to say i added paper towel around the dish and pans of the traps in case the masking tape wasn’t textured enough.
